Inshore fishing is producing excellent catches of speckled trout along with red drum and black drum.


Fishing along the surf zone is producing catches of speckled trout in the 2-4-pound range.


King mackerel and false albacore are being caught in good number on live bait, cigar minnows and Spanish sardines. Bottom fishing is producing catches of grouper, snapper and triggerfish.


Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, sailfish and blackfin tuna. Giant bluefish tuna are showing up and a few in the 500-pound range were caught on December 1 when the season opened.


SNEADS FERRY AND NEW RIVER


Captain Allen Jernigan reports inshore fishing is producing excellent catches of speckled trout as well as some red drum. The specks are being caught on MR 17’s, Storm shrimp and a variety of Saltwater Assassin plastics.

Captain Bobby Bourquin reports fishing along the Crystal Coast has been good. Fishing along the surf zone is producing catches of speckled trout in the 2-4-pound range.


Best baits for the specks have been Mirrolures and soft plastics. The king mackerel bite has been really hot over the past two weeks and the best baits have been live bait, dead cigar minnows and Spanish sardines.


Bottom fishing has been great and is producing catches of grouper, black sea bass and


triggerfish. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, sailfish and blackfin tuna.


Bluefin tuna season opened December 1 and several fish in the 500-pound range were caught.

CRYSTAL COAST-SWANSBORO TO MOREHEAD CITY-INSHORE/NEARSHORE


Captain Chad Morgan reports the speckled trout bite is one of the best he has seen in years.


The specks are being caught from the surf to the rivers and everywhere in between. Red drum and black drum are also being caught while fishing for the specks. King mackerel and false albacore are being caught in 65-degree water.


Bottom fishing has been good when the seas have been calm enough to let the boats get offshore and they are reporting catches of snapper, grouper and triggerfish.

Captain Bill Dillon reports fishing is producing lots of false albacore and speckled trout. Bluefin tuna season opened December 1 and the fish are beginning to show up across area waters.
