Inshore fishing is producing excellent catches of speckled trout along with red drum. Fishing along the surf zone is producing of speckled trout and red drum.


Prior to the recent coastal storm that blew through the area, nearshore fishing was producing catches of king mackerel and false albacore.


Gulf Stream fishing was producing catches of wahoo, blackfin tuna and sailfish.


TOPSAIL ISLAND


Joe Johnston reports the speckled trout bite continues to excel. Some of the best baits have been Rapala X-Raps in pink and clown colors. Z-Man Trout tricks, Christmas Tree curly tail grubs and Halo Shad have been really hot lures as well.

SNEADS FERRY AND NEW RIVER


Captain Allen Jernigan reports the speckled trout fishing is one of the best in years. The specks are being caught on Mirrolure MR 17’s, Storm shrimp and a variety of Saltwater Assassin plastics. Red drum are being caught in the same areas as the specks on most days.

EMERALD ISLE


Captain Bobby Bourquin reports fishing along the Crystal Coast has been a little slow due to poor weather and sea conditions recently. Fishing along the surf zone is producing catches of speckled trout and red drum.


Just before the cold snap came through, boats were reporting nice catches of king mackerel in the 15-mile range. Boats that were able to get to the Gulf Stream reported catches of catches of wahoo, blackfin tuna and sailfish.
