Inshore fishing is producing really nice catches of speckled trout and red drum.

Speckled trout are also being caught along the surf zone. False albacore and bluefish are being caught along the beaches on Big Nic jigs and various casting jigs. Fishing at the nearshore rocks and artificial reefs is producing catches of king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, barracuda, amberjacks and cobia.

Live bait fishing in the 15-mile range is producing catches of wahoo, blackfin tuna and king mackerel. Gulf Stream fishing is producing nice catches of wahoo, sailfish, blackfin tuna and some mahi. 

TOPSAIL ISLAND

Joe Johnston reports speckled trout fishing has been on fire.

The specks are being caught early in the day on topwater plugs like Heddon Spook Jrs. and Yo-Zuri Pencils. Mirrolure MR 17’s and Z-Man Trout Tricks have been very effective after the early morning bite.

SNEADS FERRY AND NEW RIVER

Captain Allen Jernigan reports the speckled trout bite has been on fire and fall fishing is in full swing.

The specks are being caught on topwater plugs and various soft plastics fished under Cajun Thunder popping corks. Red drum are also being caught inshore on topwater plugs, gold spoons and various soft plastics.

Captain Bobby Bourquin reports fall fishing along the Crystal Coast continues to be good.

Fishing along the surf zone is producing catches of speckled trout. Fishing at the nearshore rocks and artificial reefs is producing catches of king mackerel, Spanish mackerel, amberjack, cobia and barracuda. Offshore bottom fishing is producing catches of triggerfish, grouper, snapper and black sea bass. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, some mahi, sailfish and blackfin tuna.

CRYSTAL COAST-SWANSBORO TO MOREHEAD CITY-INSHORE/NEARSHORE

Captain Chad Morgan reports inshore fishing has been great and is producing catches of red drum and speckled trout with limits of fish being caught on 4-hour trips.

Best baits have been top water lures, MR 17’s and various swimming baits. Bluefish and false albacore are being caught along the beaches on Big Nic jigs and other casting jigs. King mackerel, wahoo and blackfin tuna

are being caught 15-miles off the beach on live bait.
