Water temperatures are now in the 60’s along the beaches and fishing is getting better each week.

Inshore fishing is producing catches of speckled trout and red drum. Surf fishing is producing catches of whiting, pompano and bluefish. Nearshore fishing is producing catches of Spanish mackerel, Atlantic bonito, false albacore, black sea bass and bluefish. Bottom fishing is producing catches of triggerfish, beeliners and black sea bass. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, mahi, yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna and king mackerel.

 

TOPSAIL ISLAND

Joe Johnston reports speckled trout and red drum are being caught in the marshes and around the docks.

Surf fishing is producing catches of whiting, bluefish and pompano. Nearshore fishing is producing catches of Atlantic bonito.

SNEADS FERRY AND NEW RIVER

Captain Allen Jernigan reports the speckled trout has been good as the trout are leaving their winter time haunts.

The best baits have been Mirrolure MR 17’s, Storm shrimp and topwater lures. Atlantic bonito are being caught just off the beaches on trolled lures and Diamond jigs.

EMERALD ISLE

Captain Bobby Bourquin reports fishing along the Crystal Coast continues to be very good for area anglers.

Bluefish and Spanish mackerel are being caught along the surf zone and the bluefish are a little bigger over the past week. Schools of menhaden are just outside the inlets and the cobia should arrive before long. Fishing at the rocks and artificial reefs is producing catches of false albacore, black sea bass, bluefish and Atlantic bonito. Offshore bottom fishing is producing catches of triggerfish, beeliners and black sea bass. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, wahoo, king mackerel and mahi.
