HAVELOCK - After a rough, disappointing 0-3 start to the season, Havelock's softball team let loose some of that frustration Friday night at home against rival West Craven.
Rams' pitcher Kylie Titus hurled a complete game shutout and Raelynn Kramer drove home 5 RBIs to lead the production in the win.
West Craven manufactured hits but could never get enough going in a streak to produce any runs.
"We have three pitchers we hope to throw this season and our defense is solid in spots and bats are still catching up, that's the biggest thing right now," Havelock coach Anna Spear said.
"I feel like we have some speed but we're limited with depth. Our conference seems to be pretty up for grabs for anybody."
Kramer, last year's Sun Journal Player of the Year, is to be counted on largely in the heart of Havelock's order.
"She's such a leader for us, at practice and on and off the field," Spear said of Kramer.
For West Craven, the Eagles were down a couple starters Friday but you won't hear any excuses from first-year coach Kyle Warmack.
"Being a competitor, you never want to get beat, especially 10-0 but I'll take it on me as a coach," Warmack said.
"Credit Havelock, they're a tough team and they hit it well today. I think our girls can be very good, we're a little young but we have talent and I think we're going to be better down the road."
The Eagles won two of their first three games and have dropped the past two.
With a heavy conference load ahead for both teams, Warmack said his team just to keep focus and keep working.
"I feel like we can be competitive against anybody when we're playing our best so I feel good going into more conference play," Warmack said.
Olivia Pattin took the loss on the mound for West Craven while Caroline Kawatski led the offense with two hits.
Havelock improves to 1-3 on the year while West Craven drops to 2-3.
The two schools will play a return game Monday in Vanceboro.
