HAVELOCK - The Rams' senior star guard duo of Aniylah Bryant and NyAsia Blango received solid support from the rest of Havelock's squad Thursday night in a 65-26 win over West Craven.
Bryant and Blango scored 17 points apiece and the team got 11 from Akela Van and nine from Lanaveah Fisher.
Still, in an almost 40-point victory, Havelock coach Anna Spear found plenty the team needs to improve on.
"We had some good looks, just missed a lot of them," Spear said.
"We've got to convert those and we've got to do better in the post still, they've got to come alive for us."
Havelock mainly frustrated and flustered the Eagles with its defense, forcing 31 turnovers.
Donnasia Gray led West Craven in scoring with 10 points an Deslyn Abrams chipped in nine.
For West Craven coach Lea Wedesky, she just wants to see a consistent desire and fight from her team.
"We started out ok but then when we struggled to score, we just lost it," Wedesky said.
"We've got to push through those games when the opponent starts to take a lead and we aren't scoring. We have to refuse to go out like that."
The Eagles (3-4) will get a chance to turn things around against the Rams (3-1) next week.
The two open the Craven County Holiday Hoops Classic against each other.
"We've got to be fired up to not let it be the same the next time against them," Wedesky said.
"When you play against good teams, you won't beat them or be close if you don't fight and want it."
