Anglers were rewarded with some warm days over the past week and the fish provided steady action for them.

Inshore fishing is producing excellent catches of speckled trout along with red drum.

Fishing along the surf zone is producing catches of speckled trout, red drum, bluefish and black drum. Fishing at the nearshore rocks and reefs is producing catches of flounder, black sea bass, grouper and false albacore. Offshore fishing is producing good catches of king mackerel starting 20 miles off the beach out to 120 feet of water. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, blackfin tuna and sailfish when the boats are able to get offshore. Bluefin tuna are being caught with most fish running in the 700-900-pound range.

 

TOPSAIL ISLAND

Joe Johnston reports speckled trout fishing remains strong with larger fish in the 18-22-inch range being caught.

Some of the preferred baits have been Mirrolure MR17 and MR18’s along with Rapala jerk baits.

Captain Allen Jernigan reports inshore fishing is producing catches of speckled trout and red drum.

Some of the best baits have been Mirrolure MR 17’s, Mirrolure She Pups, Rapala X-Raps, Storm shrimp and an assortment of Saltwater Assassin plastics fished with Pro-Cure bait scent.

EMERALD ISLE

Captain Bobby Bourquin reports fishing along the Crystal Coast has been good over the past week.

Fishing along the surf zone is producing catches of speckled trout, black drum, bluefish and red drum. Fishing at the nearshore rocks and reefs is producing catches of flounder, black sea bass, grouper and false albacore. King mackerel are being caught starting about 20 miles off the beach. Gulf Stream fishing is producing catches of wahoo, blackfin tuna and sailfish when the boats are able to get offshore. Bluefin tuna continue to be caught with fish up to 980 pounds being landed so far.

CRYSTAL COAST-SWANSBORO TO MOREHEAD CITY-INSHORE/NEARSHORE

Captain Jeff Cronk reports inshore fishing along the Crystal Coast is producing catches of speckled trout and some red drum.

Some of the preferred baits have been Bett’s Halo shrimp, Mirrolure MR 17’s and Berkley Gulp shrimp fished on 1/16-ounce jigs.

Captain Bill Dillon reports offshore fishing producing excellent king mackerel fishing in 120 feet of water.

Bluefin tuna fishing continues to be good and roughly one bluefin tuna is being landed every other day.
