VANCEBORO - In the recent past, West Craven and Havelock baseball games have included a little bit of everything. They've been unpredictable.

Monday night, the two got together on the diamond again.

West Craven (7-2) has already played three conference games and Havelock (3-4) had its first Tuesday.

The two traded the lead early on but then the Eagles batted around in a five-run third inning in which the Eagles got those runs off one hit and three Ram errors.

From there, West Craven stretched the lead out to an eventual 10-4 victory.

Shade Bland pitched the Eagles to the win, going six innings while allowing four runs on seven hits with just one walk and six strikeouts.

"Shade threw better tonight, it was his outing to go. We still need to do some things overall to make us better though," West Craven coach Mike McKeel said.

"Havelock is always a tough game for us, we were able to capitalize on some of their mistakes."

The Rams committed six errors in the game while the Eagles made three.

Caleb Morris and Will Wetherington each had two RBIs for West Craven, Grant Dizon drove in a run as did Josh Coombs.

Jr. Renwick led the Rams with a 3-for-3 night including a double and run scored.

"We were giving effort on those errors but West Craven is too good a team to give them outs," Havelock coach Matt James said.

"Conference for us starts tomorrow so it's a new season but we got the lead there early and didn't slam the door, gave the lead right back to them."

That stretch James spoke of came in the top of the third when the Rams got three of their four runs.

All four runs came off West Craven errors after the Rams had strung together singles.

Havelock led 3-2 going into the bottom of the third when the Eagles hung their five-spot on the board.

It was a frigid night with the wind gusting and Bland said that definitely played a part for the team.

"It was rough, I just tried to stay warm and get out of the inning fast enough and go get that jacket," Bland said.

"We just got focused, started hitting the ball there halfway through. I was just trying to concentrate and throw strikes."

West Craven is at Kinston Tuesday and Havelock hosts White Oak.
