Boys, girls teams both win big
The Havelock High boys basketball team used a 23-7 run in the third quarter to beat Swansboro 70-52 Tuesday night in Swansboro.
Quinzel Lockhart scored 12 of his game-high 23 points during the period as the Rams took a 49-34 lead into the final stanza. Havelock had trailed 27-26 at halftime.
Jeffrey Harris added 19 points and Anthony Harris totaled 12 for the Rams (5-8, 1-3), who picked up their first Coastal 3A Conference victory of the season.
E.J. McHale led Swansboro with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
In the girls game, Havelock rolled to a 65-39 victory over the Pirates, setting up Friday’s showdown against undefeated Jacksonville on Friday night at Havelock High.
The Rams (13-1, 4-0) opened with a 24-4 lead and never looked back. NyAsia Blango scored 13 points to lead a balanced Havelock attack. Alanna Williams added 12, Lanavaeh Fisher 11 and Isidre DeJesus 9.
Danayah Cantoral had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead Swansboro.
Havelock is scheduled to host Jacksonville on Friday night.
