George Evans Caldwell, 66, of 216 Nottingham Drive, Havelock, died Sunday, July 24, 2016, at CarolinaEast Medical Center, New Bern.

He was a native of Charlotte and retired as a master sergeant from the Marine Corps. His career includes service in Vietnam, earning the Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one star, Humanitarian Service Medal, Meritorious Masts 4th Award, and Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Medal Color with Palm). He was a member at Mt. Pilgrim M.B. Church in Newport.

Celebration of life service is 6 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Pilgrim M.B. Church, 189 Howard Blvd., Newport. Final service is 2 p.m. Sunday at Faith Memorial Baptist Church, 211 Lakewood Ave., Charlotte.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Hamilton Caldwell of the home; three daughters, Sabrina M. White, Latonia Hipps, and Anitra J. Caldwell, all of Charlotte; one brother, Wilch H. Caldwell Jr., of Charlotte; two sisters Gisle C. Bryant of Aiken, S.C., and Wilhelmina C. Burton of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the residence.
