Cub Scouts will have a lunch fundraiser following services at Hedrick’s Grove UCC Jan. 19. Chicken pie, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, dessert and tea will be served. Come support these young folks.
Please see your Bethany Girl Scout and order your favorite Girl Scout cookies now. Cost is $4 per box, and the money goes to help support the local troops at Bethany and council wide camps and services. Delivery will be later in January. Scouts will be in the Bethany narthex each Sunday with cookies for you to purchase. Even if you do not eat cookies , please consider purchasing a box for Operation Sweet Treat to be sent to our troops protecting us.
Hedrick’s Grove welcomes new music director
Hedrick’s Grove Reformed United Church of Christ welcomes new music director Sarah Welch. She will lead the senior and youth choirs and direct the hand bell choir. Many thanks to retiring director Judy Conrad for her many years of faithful service.
Donna Hurt, a retired director of Christian education and a member of Home Moravian Church, will be the guest speaker at the 10:45 a.m. service at Hedrick’s Grove Sunday, Jan. 19. She will share her amazing travel experiences and the blessings she has received from people in many different countries.

Bible study set at New Friendship
A Bible study on 2 Samuel, The Rise of the Kingdom, meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday until March 31 at New Friendship UCC.
Book Club will meet at Mt. Tabor
The Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ book group will begin a new book, “Between Heaven and Ground Zero: One Woman’s Struggle for Survival and Faith in the Ashes of 9/11" by Leslie Haskin. The three-session book discussion will occur every other Monday night beginning Jan. 20. You can watch a documentary free on Amazon Prime or rent it. There is also a movie trailer you can watch at no charge. If you think your life was permanently altered by the events of 9/11, you need to see how the absolute horror of escaping the Twin Towers before they collapsed impacted Haskin’s life and how her faith brought her through the dark times.

Lions council schedules county, state meetings
The Davidson County Lions Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Fair Grove Lions Den. RSVP by Jan. 23 if you are planning to come for the meal. Remember this event is for all Lions from all 15 clubs in Davidson County. Mark your calendars for the Mobile Screening Unit visit April 14 at Davidson County Community College. Your help to perform vision and hearing screening at this DCLC-sponsored event will be needed.
The next quarterly meeting of N.C. Lions Inc. will be Feb. 7-8 followed by the Council of Governors meeting on Feb. 9 at the Biltmore DoubleTree in Asheville. These meetings are open to all Lions.

Robotics Team wins awards
Congratulations to the Yadkin Valley Regional Career Academy Innovators robotics team who finished in second place at the finalist alliance at Northern Guilford. The team’s next competition will be Jan. 25 at Southern Guilford.
School plans annual fashion show
Stoner-Thomas School’s second annual Fashion Show will be held April 4 at the Davidson County Parks and Recreation Center. This year’s theme is “A Rainbow of Possibilities.” Contact the school if you or your company would like to take advantage of all sorts of wonderful opportunities to volunteer or donate to this fundraiser. County schools will be out for the MLK Holiday Jan. 20. The following two days the students will not attend for non-instructional days.
