WILMINGTON -- Historical walking tours, and flashlight tours of Oakdale Cemetery, North Carolina’s oldest rural cemetery, will be held on Saturdays, the months of April, June, July, and September. The tours will be held 10 a.m.-noon and the cost is $10 for nonmembers, free for members, unless otherwise noted. Tours are canceled in the event of inclement weather.


April 27 - Horticultural tour led by Eric Kozen, superintendent of Oakdale Cemetery. Kozen has decades of horticultural experience and will delight you with the knowledge of the flora of Oakdale.
May 18 - Flashlight Tour of Oakdale Cemetery to be held 7:30-9:30 p.m. Led by local historians, Chris Fonvielle, Robin Triplett and Eric Kozen. Each of these historians will lead you through the cemetery and speak about the history of Oakdale, Civil War veterans, Funerary Art, and speak on Oakdale's prominent citizens. The cost is $15 per person and participants must supply their own flashlights.
June 15 - Historical walking tour led by Robin Triplett. Triplett will lead you on a journey through Oakdale and will delight you with many tales of those interred in the cemetery. Learn some local history from a long time Wilmingtonian.
July 20 - Historical walking tour led by Eric Kozen. Kozen will focus on the beginnings of the cemetery as well as explain some of the funerary art and some tales of those who are laid to rest here.
Sept. 21 - Flashlight Tour of Oakdale Cemetery. Walking guided tour to be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. led by local historians, Chris Fonvielle, Robin Triplett and Eric Kozen. Each of these historians will lead you through the cemetery and speak about the history of Oakdale, Civil War veterans, Funerary Art, and speak on Oakdale’s prominent citizens. The cost is $15 per person and participants must supply their own flashlights.
