1 Thursday Night Live
The Thursday Night Live free concert series continues for the rest of the month indoors at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center.
Each performance is free and lasts from 7 to 9 p.m.
Today, Julian Winds, a combination quintet and flute performance, is scheduled.
The Aug. 23 concert has not been finalized, but the Aug. 30 concert will feature The Ensemble.

2 Historian Ellis to speak
The Friends of the Havelock-Craven County Public Library has scheduled a program featuring historian and Havelock native Eddie Ellis at 2 p.m. Sunday at the library.
Ellis is expected to discuss espionage in Havelock during the Civil War.
General admission is $10, or $5 for Friends of the Library members.
Space is limited. Advance tickets can be purchased at the library, which is located on the Havelock campus of Craven Community College off Cunningham Boulevard.

3 Newport community events
The town of Newport has scheduled a pair of community events this weekend.
Game Truck in the Park is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Fort Benjamin. The event is free and will feature plenty of gaming fun.
On Saturday, Movie in the Park is scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Newport Community Park. The free event is part of the Newport Public Library’s summer reading program. Activities begin at 6:30 p.m., with the movie Justice League beginning at 7:30 p.m. Blankets and lawn chairs are permitted.

4 Alive at Five
The Downtown Morehead City Alive at Five summer concert series is scheduled for select Fridays at Jaycee Park at 807 Shepard St., along the Morehead City Waterfront.
The free concerts are scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m.
Performers include North Tower on Friday, and The Embers on Oct. 17.
No outside coolers are permitted. Beverages will be available for purchase at the event.

5 Tryon Palace Beer Festival
Tryon Palace and the Tryon Palace Foundation will host Live and Local: Tryon Palace Beer Festival on Saturday at the North Carolina History Center.
From 5 to 9 p.m., it will feature breweries such as Brewery 99, Shortway Brewing Company, Mill Whistle Brewing, Brutopia, Fishtowne Brew House, Crystal Coast Brewing and Tight Lines Pub & Brewing Company.
Food trucks — Mari’s Hella Fat Food, La Cocina de Coqui and Three Kings Food Truck — will be on hand.
The entertainment is headlined by local bands “Peace Soldier” and “Joe Baes Project,” which will be performing throughout the night.
The cost is $20 and includes a 16-ounce souvenir glass and 12 sample tickets.
