Federation of Music Clubs Junior Music Festival/Contest on Feb. 24 at Elon University. About 70 piano students from beginning to advanced participated. Each was rated for the performance of two memorized pieces, and in the moderately difficult to advanced classes, competed for chances to compete against other winners statewide in the N.C. Federation of Music Clubs State Final Competition on April 14 at UNC-Greensboro. Tate, competing in Musically Advanced 2, is a student of Barbara Byrd. Hessnice, competing in Moderately Difficult 1, is a student of Amy Freeman. Ison, competing in Very Difficult 1, is a student of Eden Esters Brown. Prizes for each competition class in the State Competition are $150 to $300 cash scholarships, or scholarships to North Carolina music camps.
