Bridal expo, fundraisers, music highlight weekend events
1. Bridal, special event expo
The annual Bridal and Special Event Expo is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center.
The event will feature more than 60 exhibitors representing every wedding category, including wedding dress and attire, caterers, photographers and even travel consultants for that special honeymoon trip.
Brides and grooms will have the opportunity to win more than $5,000 in door prizes, including a wedding cake, DJ service, photo booth, a four-day honeymoon cruise and more.
Admission is $8 online or $10 at the door.
The event is a production of ENC Live Media Group and sponsored by Party Perfection Wedding and Events, CK Entertainment and DoubleTree by Hilton New Bern – Riverfront.

2. Hooked on Walking
The Craven County Hooked on Walking group has scheduled a visit to Tucker Creek Middle School on Saturday at 9 a.m.
There will be a breakfast social following walk at BoJangles in James City.
Walks are about an hour long, walking at your own pace. New walkers are welcome. Rain cancels the walk.

3. Polar Plunge
Pre-registration is under way for Craven County Special Olympics’ second annual Polar Plunge on Saturday at Courts Plus’ outdoor pool, 2911 Brunswick Ave, New Bern.
More than 300 athletes participate in local and state level competitions in Olympic-type sports such as bowling, basketball, swimming, equestrian and more.
This is a fundraising event for Craven County Special Olympics and local participation will help ensure that Special Olympians in the community will continue to have the opportunity to compete.
The entry fee to plunge or dip is $25 for adults and $12 for those age 18 and under, with parental permission required. Special Olympians plunge for free.
Those who pre-register will get a free T-shirt. Pre-register online at firstgiving.com/sonc/cravenplunge2018.
On-site registration begins at 9 a.m. with the event set for 10 a.m.

4. David Dixon Trio
The David Dixon Trio is scheduled to perform from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday at Salt in Emerald Isle.
Dixon, who lives in Wilmington, studied guitar performance and songwriting at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. He just released his debut album.
The band plays a mix of blues, jam, rock and soul music.

5. BBQ and Blue Jeans
The annual BBQ and Blue Jeans fundraiser for the New Bern Firemen’s Museum is Friday at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, 203 S. Front St. New Bern.
The ticket for the 6 p.m. event includes a barbecue dinner, an open bar with beer, wine and soft drinks, two bands — 3 Day Weekend and Take 2 — and dancing.
All proceeds benefit the New Bern Firemen’s Museum. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door.
Tickets are on sale at New Bern Firemen’s Museum, New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, New Bern Fire Rescue headquarters on Broad Street and Mitchell Hardware.
