Cherry Point continues preparations for the 2018 air show, and has added another feature jet demonstration team to its lineup.

The Canadian Forces Air Demonstration Squadron, also known as the Snow Birds, will be joining the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels for the air show scheduled from May 4 to 6 at Cherry Point. It will mark the first time in the history of the Cherry Point Air Show that it will feature two military jet aerobatic teams during one show.

The Snow Birds have appeared at the Cherry Point Air Show before, most recently in 2009. The team’s 2018 appearance at Cherry Point will be its first demonstration of its season.

Planning for the 2018 show has been going on almost since the last air show ended. That one in 2016 drew more than 200,000 visitors during the course of the three-day event.

The 2018 show will feature a Friday nighttime show on May 4, along with day shows on May 5 and 6, highlighted by the Navy’s Blue Angels.

The air show schedule includes a long list of aerial performances ranging from high-speed jet demonstrations to smaller aerobatic daredevils to vintage warbirds. The Shockwave jet truck is also scheduled to put on a demonstration.

Not all the action will be in the air, however. The show and open house will feature static displays of a variety of military aircraft and equipment.

An example of military force will include a demonstration by the Marine Air Ground Task Force in which a combat situation is simulated at the airfield, complete with military jets and helicopters in the air and Marine forces on the ground.

General admission and parking for the air show are free. Premium seating ticket options will be available at a later date as the air show gets closer.
