Newport Winterfest, parade, flotillas to entertain
1. Newport Winterfest, parade
Winterfest is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Newport Community Park.
The event includes a variety of Christmas activities, games, crafts, hot chocolate and cookies, carolers, readings of “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and “The Down East Night Before Christmas,” and Santa Claus.
The event concludes with the lighting of the town Christmas tree.
Admission is free.
The Newport Christmas Parade is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday.
2. Craven Community Chorus
The Craven Community Chorus has scheduled its annual Christmas Performance for 7 p.m. today and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Orringer Auditorium on the New Bern campus of Craven Community College.
The performance includes Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” under the direction of Philip Evancho as well as some traditional and not so traditional Christmas songs.
Accompaniment for the concert will be provided by pianist Cheryl Kite and Rachel Hart with the Trent River Orchestra.
Tickets are $5, available for advance purchase from chorus members or at the Bank of the Arts, Kitchen on Trent, Fullers Music, UPS Store and Harris Teeter in New Bern. Tickets are also available at the door.

3. Christmas Train Show
The John Costlow Christmas Train Show is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Old 1907 Train Depot, 2015 Pollock St., Beaufort.
The event features a variety of model train layouts, from simple circles to elaborate systems. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Donations go to support the Beaufort Lions Club.

4. New Bern flotilla
The Coastal Christmas Flotilla is slated for Saturday at Union Point Park, 210 E. Front St., New Bern, from 4:45 to 7:30 p.m.
The boat parade is on the Trent and Neuse rivers. It features various types of watercraft, all decorated for the holidays. The flotilla will begin at the Eastern Carolina Yacht Club and sail past Union Point Park at approximately 5:30 p.m., then on to Council Bluff Green Park and back in front of Union Point Park. Afterwards, Santa will greet children in the park.
On land, the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band from Cherry Point will open the festivities.

5. Crystal Coast flotilla
The Crystal Coast Christmas Flotilla is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. along the Morehead City Waterfront and 6:15 p.m. along the Beaufort Waterfront.
The event features a variety of boats, yachts and commercial vessels decorated for the season.
A catered viewing event and party is $50 at the N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort.

After the flotilla, Morehead City has scheduled its Community Tree Lighting for 6 p.m. on Saturday at Jaycee Park. It will feature Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as Christmas music.
