Comedy show, concert part of weekend events

1. Bowling Blast Off

MacDaddy’s in Cape Carteret has scheduled its Back to School Bowling Blast Off from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

School children receive a free game of bowling as part of the event, which also includes a bounce house, face-painting, popcorn and the chance to win prizes.

MacDaddy’s is located near the intersection of N.C. 24 and N.C. 58 in Cape Carteret.

2. Paddling event

The sixth annual Colonial SUP Race — stand up paddling — is set for Saturday on the New Bern waterfront, 403 E. Front St.

It begins at 8 a.m., with costs for participants ranging from $50 to $75. The event is promoted to provide the thrill of open water racing. There is a new format this year, with two races, including individual events and a combined championship. A four-mile triangle-shaped course with buoy turns begins with a regatta start. It will be conducted in heat format, with open board class. Awards will be given in a number of gender and age classes.

3. Country Cool comedy show

The Country Cool comedy show is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday at the Carteret Community Theatre in Morehead City.

The event includes southern comedians Trish Suhr, Karen Mills and Leanne Morgan. Tickets range from $20 to $45.

4. Bryan Mayer concert

New Bern country singer and musician Bryan Mayer is scheduled to perform from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at Salt in Emerald Isle.

Mayer is known for such songs as “Closer to You,” “This is Me,” “Leaving Town” and “Lil Bit Naughty,” all of which have gotten local radio play.

5. Farmers’ Market Peach Day

The Olde Beaufort Farmers’ Market has scheduled Peach Day from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The event will include homemade peach ice cream as well as other peach items and the normal away of local food, artists and crafts. Live local music and a food truck will be available for lunch.
