1. Bookbag giveaway

A back to school bookbag giveaway is scheduled for noon Saturday at Cherry Point Church of Christ, 279 Shipman Road, in Havelock.

Sponsored by Integrity Bail Bonding, the event includes free backpacks and school supplies for middle school students. Limit is one per family, and the child must be present.

2. Capture the Flag game

Glow in the Dark Capture the Flag games are scheduled beginning at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at Fort Benjamin Park in Newport.

The traditional outdoor game features teams of players trying to capture the other team’s flag without getting tagged out.

The event is free.

3. Embers and Spare Change concert

The New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce Summer Concert Series wraps up its 2017 schedule on Friday with the YPG River Jam featuring the Embers and Spare Change.

It begins at 5 p.m. at the New Bern Farmers Market, 421 S. Front St.

Admission is $15 in advance, $20 at the gate, with children age 12 and under free with paid adult.

Tickets are available at Mitchell Hardware, 215 Craven St., or the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce, 316 S. Front St.

4. Chairmen of the Board

The Chairmen of the Board is scheduled to perform at 9 p.m. Friday at Southern Salt Seafood Company, 701 Evans St., on the waterfront in Morehead City.

The band is known for its soulful harmonies and classic hits such as “Give Me Just a Little More Time,” “Pay to the Piper,” and “You Got Me Dangling on a String.”

Admission is $15 at the door.

5. Beaufort Pirate Invasion

The Beaufort Pirate Invasion is scheduled for 10 to 5:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday along the Beaufort waterfront.

Various events with various prices are part of the festivities, including a lunch with Blackbeard on Friday at the Dock House Restaurant, a 5K fundraising run and Buccanner Revue dinner. Free entertainment and music is part of the event, along with a children’s costume contest. There will also be storytelling, a pirate encampment, a main stage for live music and entertainment, and pirate characters throughout the event.

The event concludes with a Breakfast with the Pirates on Sunday.
