Money would be used for required backwash basin

Havelock commissioners are expected to consider acceptance of a $2.5 million loan for construction of a backwash basin at the city’s water treatment plant.

The basin is required as part of the city’s new water treatment permit. The loan is through the Department of Environmental Quality.

Rivers and Associates is working on the design of the basin, and city staff is reviewing those plans.

Commissioners will also be asked to consider funding projects totaling $90,239. The money would be used to pay for air conditioning repairs at the Havelock Senior Center, flooring and a generator at the Havelock Police Department, and repairs needed from an annual inspection of city facilities.

The board will also be asked to consider $267,067 worth of projects from the sewer fund. Those include repairs on Cambridge Court, Heron Moon Court and Farina Drive as well as the gravity sewer interceptor system.

The board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Monday.
