Kayak through History event also on weekend schedule
1. Night lighthouse climbs
Cape Lookout National Seashore is offering evening climbs of the Cape Lookout Lighthouse today through Saturday.
The cost of the program is $28, which includes ferry fee, and is non-refundable (weather dependent). There will be one evening ferry trip on each date for all the climbs on that night. The ferry departs Harkers Island at 7:30 p.m., and returns at about 10 p.m.
Children joining the climb must be at least 44 inches tall and able to climb the steps on their own. Children 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult (age 16 or older). Footwear is required, and a flashlight is recommended.
Other evening climbs are scheduled for Aug. 18 to 20 and Sept. 16 and 17.

2. Kayak Through History
The N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort has scheduled Kayak Through History from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday.
The event is for those ages 12 and up. Those less than age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should know how to swim and have some basic kayak experience.
The cost is $40 for those in need of a kayak rental and $25 for those with their own kayaks.
The event offers basic kayak instruction with safety lessons and includes a paddle through area salt marsh with lessons on local history.
Reservations are required.
Additional dates are scheduled for Aug. 4 and Sept. 20.

3. Summer Concert Series
The OBX Philharmonic is scheduled to perform a free concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Jaycee Park, 807 Shepard St., at the Morehead City Waterfront.
The band plays a variety of music and classic rock.
The concert is part of the Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department’s Summer Concert Series.

4. Folk concert
The folk music duo Nanne & Ankie are scheduled to perform Friday at Trent River Coffee Company, 208 Craven St., New Bern.
Tickets are $15 at the door, which opens at 6 p.m., with music an hour later.
The duo is from the Netherlands and has played together since 1980. They have produced nearly 40 albums and regularly tour in Europe, North America and Australia. They sing traditional as well as newly written songs, with a wide repertoire covering many subjects.
Maritime and historical themes play an important role, but they also sing about humorous events from daily life.

5. Casablanca in concert
The band Casablanca is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at The Brown Pelican, 411 Broad St., in downtown New Bern.
The band re-creates Rick’s American Bar from the famous film “Casablanca.”
