Pro rodeo, Living History weekend also on tap

1. Rockin’ on the Rivers

The Rockin’ On the Rivers concert featuring the Marshall Tucker Band is scheduled for Friday on the New Bern waterfront.

Tickets are $15 for the show in advance and $20 at the gate. The concert is expected to draw several thousand spectators to the intersection of Broad and East Front streets.

The gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and the music will start about an hour later with 3 Day Weekend, followed by Bryan Mayer and then the Marshall Tucker Band.

2. Spare Change in concert

The group Spare Change is scheduled to perform a free concert from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jaycee Park, 807 Shepard St., on the Morehead City Waterfront.

The concert is part of the Alive at Five concert series put on by the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association.

The six-member group plays a variety of rock, country, beach, funk and classic rock music.

Lawn chairs and blankets are allowed, but coolers and outside beverages are not permitted.

3. Pro rodeo

The Newport Flea Mall is scheduled to host a pro rodeo from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Gates open at 6 p.m. with competition beginning at 8 p.m.

Advance adult tickets are $13, and are $15 at the gate. Children ages 6 to 12 are $8, and children under 5 are free.

The Newport Flea Mall is located off U.S. 70 just east of Newport.

4. Wild Honey concert

The band Wild Honey is scheduled for a free concert from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Fort Macon.

Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are permitted, but glass and pets are prohibited.

The band plays country and folk music.

5. Fort Macon Living History

Living History Weekend is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Fort Macon State Park in Atlantic Beach.

The event includes re-enactors from the First North Carolina Volunteers, who will be putting on special events and programs such as flag talks, women’s dress talks, musket drills and artillery demonstrations. A skirmish scenario is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
