Finale for Adult Reading Program is today
The grand finale of the Havelock-Craven County Public Library 2016 Adult Summer Reading Program is today at 2 p.m. at the library.
“This is the very first year that we have had programs for adults,” said librarian worker Jane Ellen Ingram. “We do have programs for children and for teens. We didn’t want to leave out the adult community.”
Past programs earlier this summer have included chair yoga and stretching made simple.
“It was so much fun,” said Ingram. “We giggled and laughed.”
It’s not all about reading.
“The fellowship is as important as the programs themselves,” Ingram said. “It’s about meeting and greeting and being able to enjoy people your age and like-minded individuals.”
Light refreshments will be served at the grand finale event and attendees will be quizzed for fun.
“I’m going to give some quotes from literature and they are going to tell me what book it came from,” said Ingram. “We’re going to go around and say what did this program mean to you and how you would improve it. I want to get ready for next year and see how people that are actually in it would like for it to be improved. ”
This year’s series in the program lasted just four weeks, but Ingram would like to see that expanded.
The idea is to attract people to the library.
“We’re more than dusty old books. We have a lot of programs,” said Ingram. “Some people think of a library as being a very boring place. With the computers that we have and the resources for research we have an awful lot to offer and I don’t think people are taking advantage about it.”
The library is located at 301 Cunningham Boulevard. The telephone number is 447-7509. More information can be obtained by going online tohttp://havelocklibrary.org/?page_id=537 .
