Turkey Trot, Emerald Isle parade on the schedule

1. Turkey Trot

The annual Twin Rivers YMCA Turkey Trot is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday at Taberna Country Club in New Bern.

Registration is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Activities include a 5K run/walk. There is a category for pets and strollers as well. Prizes will be awarded in various divisions and age groups.

2. Light Up the Season

Light Up the Season is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bear Plaza on Middle Street in downtown New Bern.

The free event will include the arrival of Santa Claus and the opening of the Santa House. The event will also including the lighting of the plaza with Christmas lights.

3. Emerald Isle Christmas

Emerald Isle has scheduled its Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair as well as its Christmas Parade on Saturday.

The arts and crafts fair is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation gymnasium. Information is available by calling 354-6350 or emailing lgottuso@emeraldisle-nc.org.

The Christmas Parade is scheduled for 3 p.m. The lighting of the Christmas Tree as well as caroling and free refreshments follow the parade in Merchant’s Park.

4. Christmas movies

Tryon Palace has scheduled movie showing of two holiday classics on Saturday and Sunday.

The 1954 “White Christmas” is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, while the animated “Polar Express” is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday. After the show Sunday, children will get a chance to meet the conductor and will receive a Christmas Bell.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under.

 5. Tree Lighting

New Bern has scheduled its Christmas Tree Lighting for 5 p.m. Saturday in New Bern.

The tree is located at the traffic circle at the corner of East Front and Broad streets. The event includes choral and other performances.
