Wings for Autism benefit also scheduled

1. Wings for Autism

A Wings for Autism fundraiser is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Michael J. Smith Airport in Beaufort.

The fundraiser is part of an Eagle Scout project by Blake Deaton and aims to raise enough money to build and supply a Sensory Educational Room at Morehead Middle School.

The event will feature airplane rides along the Crystal Coast for $25 per person. Wings for Autism T-shirts will be for sale, as well as food, drinks and ice cream.

The airport is located at 180 Airport Road off N.C. 101 in Beaufort.

2. World War II lecture

A free lecture about the German prisoner of war program in North Carolina is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cullman Performance Hall inside the N.C. History Center in New Bern.

Robert D. Bilinger Jr., a professor emeritus at Wingate University, is the scheduled speaker.

More than 10,000 German prisoners of war were interned in 18 camps in North Carolina during World War II. Billinger’s presentation will include documents, photographs and maps as well as stories work programs and escapes, as well as re-education and repatriation. A reception follows the presentation.

The New Bern Historical Society is putting on the lecture.

3. Holiday bazaar

The Crystal Coast Choral Society has scheduled a silent auction and holiday bazaar from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cape Carteret Aquatic and Wellness Center on Taylor Notion Road in Cape Carteret.

The event will feature new or gently used holiday-themed items. Homemade baked goods, coffee and cider will be available for purchase.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the choral society’s December performance of Handel’s “Messiah.”

4. Holiday Gift Show

The Holiday Gift Show is scheduled Friday through Sunday at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. Times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Admission is $3, with children 12 and under free. Attendees will get $1 off admission with a a donation of a canned food item.

The event features a variety of gifts and décor items from a variety of vendors.

5. Bacon and Brew Fest

The New Bern Bacon and Brew Fest is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the New Bern Farmer’s Market.

The event is for those ages 21 and older. Admission is $10, which includes one beer or bacon item.

The event includes entertainment by the Joe Baes Project, a variety of craft and domestic beer, food trucks with a bacon-themed menu, games, prize giveaways and a silent auction.

Proceeds go to support the United Way of Coastal Carolina.
