Car show, 'Harry Potter' symphony performance also scheduled

1. Band of Oz to perform

The Band of Oz is scheduled to perform concert from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Jaycee Park in Morehead City.

The event is free. No coolers are allowed. Beverages will be available for purchase.

The concert is part of the Alive at Five series put on by the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association.

2. Battlefield Park celebration

The New Bern Historical Society has scheduled a celebration for the opening of its History Walk from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the New Bern Battlefield Park at the entrance to the Taberna subdivision off U.S. 70 between New Bern and Havelock.

The event will include Civil War re-enactors and musicians. The opening of the battlefield plaza includes a 25-foot-wide concrete map of the battlefield that explains the 1862 Civil War battle. The plaza walk also includes 35 informational panels that provide information about the battle and its effect on New Bern.

The event is free and features guided tours and speaker Reginald Hildebrand, a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Refreshments will be available.

3. Craven County Fair

The Craven County Fair is scheduled to continue through Sunday at the fairgrounds off U.S. 70 between Havelock and New Bern.

Gate admission is $5 with $20 ride armbands available for the entire day.

The event features amusement rides, vendors and live entertainment.

The fair opens at 6 p.m. today and Friday, 11 a.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

4. Harry Potter in music

The N.C. Symphony is scheduled to perform a special “Harry Potter” concert on Sunday at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center.

“Halloween at Hogwarts: The Music of Harry Potter” is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday. Pre-concert activities, including the Instrument Zoo, are scheduled for 2 p.m.

Admission is $18 for the performance, which includes selections from the “Harry Potter” movies as well as illusionist Lyn Dillies.

Those attending can dress as their favorite “Harry Potter” characters.

5. Car Show

The Colonial Capital Rods and Classics Car Show is scheduled for Saturday at the New Bern Mall.

Car registration is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon, with the first 200 participants receiving a plaque with a car photograph. Registration is $20.

Along with the car awards, awards will also be presented for the best Halloween costumes.

Admission for the public is free, and entertainment and door prizes are included.
