Craven County Fair

The Craven County Fair is scheduled to open today and run through Nov. 1 at the fairgrounds off U.S. 70 between Havelock and New Bern.

Gate admission is $5 with $20 ride armbands available for the entire day.

The event features amusement rides, vendors and live entertainment.

The fair opens at 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. on Sundays.

Kids free nights are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday with up to three children entering free with one paid adult.

Ghostwalk

The New Bern Historical Society’s annual Ghostwalk is scheduled today through Saturday in downtown New Bern.

Times are 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. today, and 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The event features ghostly tales in some of New Bern historic sites, including homes, churches and businesses.

Advance tickets are $16, with $22 tickets on the days of the event.

All Hallow’s Eve

Tryon Palace in New Bern has scheduled an All Hallow’s Eve event for children from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Children ages 12 and under in Halloween costumes will be admitted for free for some trick-or-treating around the palace and its grounds. The event also includes interaction with friendly ghosts, costumed characters, crafts, games, toys and some spooky stories.

Admission is $4 for those ages 13 to 18 and $10 for adults. Admission is free for Tryon Palace Foundation members.

Evening at Cape Lookout

The final Evening at Cape Lookout Lighthouse programs of the year are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

The event allows participants to climb to the top of the lighthouse as the moon rises and the sun sets, to see the stars light up over unlit beaches, to hear stories of the lighthouse keepers and to experience Cape Lookout as they did decades ago.

Reservations are required and can be made by calling 725-9373 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The cost of the program is $23, which includes the ferry fee, and is non-refundable, depending on the weather.

The ferry ride to the lighthouse leaves from Harker’s Island at 6:30 p.m. and returns around 9 p.m.

Children joining the climb must be at least 44-inches tall and must climb the steps on their own. Children 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Footwear is required as well.

Folk Arts concert

The Down East Folk Arts Society has scheduled a pair of concerts featuring singer and guitarist Suzie Vinnick.

Shows are scheduled for Friday at the Trent River Coffee Company in New Bern and Saturday at Clawson’s Restaurant in Beaufort. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. at both locations.

Vinnick is from Canada and sings a variety of blues, folk, country and pop. She has performed shows in Canada and the United States as well as for Canadian forces serving in Bosnia and the Persian Gulf region.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for active-duty military and society members and $8 for students. Tickets can be reserved by calling 646-4657 or by emailing folkartsenc@gmail.com.
