Voting can be done at Board of Elections in New Bern

Early voting for the Nov. 3 Havelock Board of Commissioners elections is scheduled to open today at the Board of Elections office in New Bern.

Early voting runs from today through Oct. 31. Times for early voting are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 31 and takes place inside the elections office at the Craven County Administration Building at 406 Craven St., in downtown New Bern.

There is no early-voting site in Havelock.

Those who have not registered to vote in the election can register and vote on the same day during the early-voting period. Only registered voters will be allowed to cast a ballot on the Nov. 3 Election Day. Voting on Election Day is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center.

Three city board seats are up for election, with incumbents Danny Walsh, Karen Lewis and Peter Van Vliet all running to hold their seats. Challengers include Clinton Jones, Michele Leo, and Nick Patel.

Though George Corbin is on the ballot for commissioner, he has asked that no one vote for him, as he was appointed to the board to fill Jim Stuart’s seat after he had already filed to run. State law prohibited the removal of his name from the ballot.
