Gibbs linked to crimes in Havelock, Harkers Island, according to authorities
A man wanted in connection with robberies in Harkers Island and Havelock was arrested Thursday night in Newport.
Dvonta Gibbs, 25, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshalls without incident around 7 p.m. in the Newport Food Lion, according to a release from the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.
Gibbs was wanted in connection with the robbery of the Midway Mart Sept. 15 in Harkers Island. He was also wanted for armed robberies in Havelock and Carteret County, according to the release.
U.S. Marshalls had been seeking Gibbs for cutting off his probation ankle bracelet for prior convictions in Craven County, according to the release.
Gibbs is being held in the Craven County Jail and is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday in Carteret County.
In all, authorities believe five people were involved in the Harkers Island robbery. Authorities arrested Brody George, 16, of Havelock, and Kimberly Dawn McLaughlin, 30, of Newport, on the night of the robbery.
Authorities later arrested Trevonne Myrick, 19, of Havelock, on Sept. 18, and are still looking for Adrian “A.J.” Johnson, 19, of Beaufort.
Carteret County deputies responded to the convenience store around 7 p.m. on Sept. 15 when the clerk reported that three men had robbed the store at gunpoint, fleeing with about $1,300 in cash. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle in which the suspects were driving but were led on about a 15-mile chase through Beaufort. George and McLaughlin were taken into custody near Hardesty Loop Road, while the others got away.
