President Obama is calling for stricter gun controls in the wake of the recent horrific shooting in Oregon. As with most conservatives, I’m all for “controlling” bad people’s access to weapons but have yet to hear a preventative remedy that did much of anything except control my access.

I’m a law-abiding citizen who owns guns and plans to buy some more of them. I grew up around firearms without any issues uniquely associated with their existence.

There’ll always be violent nutcases, but I’ve never been able to connect their actions directly to hardware. It appears to me they have “software” problems between their ears.

Whether using a gun, knife, bomb or poison, anybody intent upon doing harm will generally find a way. Given that reality, I believe the more good and honest people are prepared to fight back, the less likely violence will visit.

Statistics clearly bear this out, but liberals are immune to facts. The highest incidence of gun violence occurs in cities with the strictest gun laws. That happens because only bad guys are armed and the bad guys know it.

A very weird by-product of this administration’s gun control mantras is there has never been anybody or anything that has spurred gun ownership and interest as effectively as Obama and the Democrats. Sales are soaring.

I recently renewed my NRA membership. I initially joined the National Rifle Association a few years back, not because they sent me a “free” bag or a monthly magazine but rather simply because liberals didn’t want me to. That in and of itself was a perfect reason to become a card-carrying member.

Truth be told, I personally wouldn’t mind stronger background check requirements if we had an administration that was trustworthy. But given the fact I can’t believe anything Obama says, there’s no way people like me could ever voluntarily give that man a single inch of control.

The president went to Oregon for the stated purpose of visiting the families of victims and offering comfort. That may in fact be true, but it doesn’t escape me that he carefully picks and chooses upon whom to dispense his “comfort.”

I believe his litmus test is purely political. Somebody killed by an illegal alien welcomed into this country by his policies won’t have their families visited or even called.

Chicago has super-restrictive gun laws, yet in this legislatively “gun free” zone citizens are murdered almost daily, sometimes in groups. Am I the only person who finds it strange those deaths aren’t even pips on the president’s radar screen? I’ve never heard of “stealth” bodies but these are apparently invisible to him.

Well, there’s only a year and a hook left before he’s gone. Of course he’s still able to do a lot of damage in the months he has left, but we’re thankfully on the downhill slope.

Have you ever considered that the NRA and gun manufacturers might secretly be sad to see him leave? He’s increased their sales enormously.

Whoever said the Obama administration was bad for business? Certainly not Samuel Colt.
