New Bern offering kitchens tour and car show
1. Museum Day in Beaufort
The Beaufort Historic Site will open its historic homes and buildings free of charge on Saturday as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day Live.
The Beaufort Historic Site depicts 18th and 19th century life in Beaufort. The site includes nine buildings, six of which are authentically restored and open for tours. In addition to the buildings, the site includes the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery in the Rustell House as well as the Old Burying Grounds that dates to the early 1700s. The site offers living history demonstrations, guided tours of the buildings, double decker bus tours, and special events that highlight the cultural, architectural, and historical heritage of Beaufort.
Guided tours are scheduled for 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday from the Safrit Historical Center located at the 100 block of Turner Street in Beaufort. The tours and admission are free for those who download a Museum Day Live ticket at Smithsonian.com/museumday.

2. Kitchens of New Bern Tour
The Kitchens of New Bern Tour is scheduled beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The event raises money for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
Those on the self-guided tour will receive special food tastings as well as ideas on renovating or designing their kitchens. Tickets are $20 and can be picked up at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, along an official tour packet and map, or can be purchased in advance.

3. Colonial Capital car show
The Colonial Capital Rods and Classics Shine and Show car show has been scheduled for Saturday at the New Bern Mall.
Car registration is from 9 a.m. to noon and the cost is $20.
Admission to the public is free.

4. Lighthouse evening climb
Cape Lookout National Seashore has scheduled evening climbs of the Cape Lookout Lighthouse today through Saturday.
The cost is $23 per person, which covers the cost of the ferry ride over to the island. The ferry departs from Harkers Island at 7:30 p.m. and returns around 10 p.m. Reservations are required.
Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall, and children 12 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Footwear is required to climb the lighthouse.

5. Corn maze opening
The Garner’s Plant Stand Corn Maze has scheduled its grand opening for 10 a.m. Saturday at 173 Sam Garner Road in Newport.
Admission is $11 for adults and $8 for children and includes hay rides, pick-your-own pumpkin patch, the pumpkin chunker and the little kids straw bale maze.
