Forum set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at fire department in Carolina Pines

A public forum on a Cherry Point Regional Joint Land Use Study is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Township Six Volunteer Fire Department in Carolina Pines.

The meeting is designed to inform residents about the study, which is designed to look at land use around Cherry Point and other area military facilities such as Bogue, Atlantic and the two bombing ranges in eastern Carteret County. The study will make recommendations and suggest guidelines designed to ensure compatibility among residents, communities and the military. One of the biggest issues is development that could encroach upon military facilities, possibly disrupting military operations and training.

The Township Six Volunteer Fire Department is located at 109 Carolina Pines Blvd.

A similar meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pamlico Community College, 5049 N.C. 306 in Grantsboro. Another meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at Atlantic School, 151 School Drive, in Atlantic in Carteret County.
