Women's Expo to be held in New Bern

1. Civil War Living History

Fort Macon State Park has scheduled its Civil War Living History Weekend for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The event is scheduled to include musket loading and firing demonstrations by Civil War re-enactors, cannon firing presentations, flags of the Confederacy, women’s apparel and fashions of the 1860s, uniform and weapons talks by soldiers of the blue and gray, and a mock attack on Fort Macon.

There is no admission charge.

Fort Macon is located at the end of N.C. 58 near Atlantic Beach.

2. Blue Grass Festival

The White Oak Shores Bluegrass Festival has been scheduled for Friday and Saturday at White Oak Shores Campground off N.C. 58 in Stella in Carteret County.

The two-day event will feature 10 bands each day performing 20 shows.

Tickets are $20 per person per day or $35 for both days. Two-person, two-night camping packages are available for $170.

Food and beverages will be available.

3. Women’s Expo

The New Bern Women’s Expo is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center.

The event will include demonstrations, vendors, samples, door prizes, a fashion show and educational sessions.

Admission is free and free tote bags will be available while supplies last.

Proceeds benefit New Bern Get Your Pink On, a group that raises money for breast cancer research.

4. Harborfest

The HeartWorks Harborfest is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at River Dunes near Oriental.

Friday’s event is a performance by Saltwater Gold. Tickets are $25.

Saturday’s free events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. include games, water activities, entertainment and vendor booths. A Gala Dinner Dance is scheduled for 5 p.m. with music by The Entertainers. The cost is $75 per person.

Proceeds benefit HeartWorks, a nonprofit group that helps at-risk children and their families.

5. Beach Sweep

Discovery Diving has scheduled an underwater and beach cleanup for Beach Sweep beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the public beach access to the rock jetty at Radio Island between Beaufort and Morehead City.

Participants can meet at Discovery Diving Company at 414 Orange St., Beaufort.

Prizes will be awarded for the strangest trash found. Students can snorkel for free from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

After the cleanup, a cookout will be held for participants at Discovery Diving.
