Train hits car at Cherry Point, no injuries reported
A slow moving train struck a car at Cherry Point Tuesday afternoon.
According to Mike Barton, deputy director of public affairs at the base, the collision happened at about 5:20 p.m.
“There was a training leaving the base with nine coal cars and an individual in a vehicle crossed in front of the train and collided with it,” Barton said.
The motor vehicle was exiting a parking lot at the time of the crash. The train had been heading southwest along A Street where the contact took place.
The car was damaged enough to have to be towed from the scene, Barton said.
There were no injuries and the identity of the driver was not known.
