Rodney G. Barbour, 56, of the Broad Creek community, died Sunday, May 10, 2015, at his home surrounded by family.


Rodney G. Barbour, 56, of the Broad Creek community, died Sunday, May 10, 2015, at his home surrounded by family.



He served in the Coast Guard before beginning at civil service career at Fleet Readiness Center East at Cherry Point, retiring on March 31 after more than 30 years. He enjoyed clamming, camping, flounder-gigging, gardening, metal-detecting, and drawing and painting. He enjoyed playing music and singing.



Funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Broad Creek Church of God with the Rev. Robbie Strickland officiating.



He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Rose Barbour; his mother, Janice Gulledge of Broad Creek; four daughters, Samantha Swain and DeAnna Barbour of Newport, Amanda Russell of Broad Creek, and Meagan Arenas of Greensboro; one son, Joseph Killian of Greensboro; eight brothers, Johnny Barbour of Newport, Michael Barbour of Arizona, Larry Barbour of Broad Creek, Steve Barbour of Tennessee, Jack Gulledge of Virginia, Dennis Gulledge of South Carolina, Dale Gulledge of Sanford, and Don Gulledge of Tennessee; two sisters, Gail McWilliams of Tennessee and Maria Rose of Greensboro; and five grandchildren.



The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City.
