The Havelock Rams had no trouble defeating visiting White Oak in a Coastal 3A Conference girls basketball game on Wednesday evening in Havelock.

Apriel Barrette scored 15 points to pace the Rams in a 57-12 victory.

Havelock (10-6, 7-1 Coastal 3A) remains tied atop the conference with four games remaining.

Jalisa Wilson posted 12 points for the Rams, while Lexi Hall contributed 10. Shernecia Martin chipped in nine points to complete the balanced offensive attack.

“We only have eight players so we know we have to be in shape,” Havelock coach Anna Spear said. “Mentality-wise, we have to stay healthy and be in shape.”

The running clock was initiated when Barrette scored a layup with 5:00 remaining in the third quarter, giving the Rams a 45-5 cushion. The Rams extended their lead to 53-7 at the end of the period.

“I was pleased with our intensity the whole game,” Spear said. “We’ve been trying to implement some things in our half-court defense. I was pleased with our transition, but we had too many unforced turnovers.”

Havelock jumped out of the gate to a 16-3 lead after one quarter, and then outscored White Oak, 23-0 to lead 39-3 at halftime.

Barrette scored nine in the first half, while Wilson and Hall each tallied eight points prior to halftime. White Oak scored its lone basket on a 3-pointer by Tabitha Krick in the first quarter.

Havelock plays host to West Carteret on Tuesday.

“We said when conference play started that this is anyone’s conference,” Spear said. “It still is. We have three of us with one loss.”
