Alvin Francis Malone Jr., age 56, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, the 15th of September of 2013.
HAVELOCK ó Alvin Francis Malone Jr., age 56, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, the 15th of September of 2013. He peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by his loved ones, his devoted wife and daughter as well as his close friends. He had bravely battled cancer for over two years. He has generously donated his body to the ECU Brody School of Medicine in the hope of helping others with this and other horrible diseases.
He was born in Baltimore, Md., on August 12 of 1957 to Jean Delores Duncan Malone and Alvin Francis Malone. He attended and graduated from Archbishop Curley High School in 1975. He was a dedicated member of the Catholic Church and also served as an altar boy for a time. After graduation, he soon enlisted into the U.S. Navy in which he faithfully served ten years. In June of 2012, he retired after dedicating 37 loyal years to the Fleet and FRC East.
He was a loving and devoted husband, a wonderful father and a man who truly loved life and his friends. Many of his friends he thought of as his extended family, and he had a place in his heart for you all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin F. Malone; his mother, Jean D. Quick; and his step-father, Charles C. Quick Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Devona P. Malone; and his daughter, April J. Malone of Wilmington. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara A. Scott; and his brothers Charles C. Quick Jr. and Anthony S. Quick, all of Baltimore, Md. He was loved by and loved many nieces, nephews and step-children from his previous marriages.
A casual memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, the 29th of September of 2013 at 2 p.m. at Jeanís Place located at 330 E. Main St., Havelock.
