And the winner of the Food Network’s "Cupcake Wars" is … Nicole Costa.

The show was broadcast Sunday night and Costa, her two children and Cherry Point Marine husband watched the program at their Bridgeton home.

On Monday, Costa said she continues to be thrilled about the victory with her assistant on the show, Rebecca Clanton.

Costa was at the Food Network studios in Los Angels for four days in August taping the show.

"They treated the contestants very well. We had a nice hotel. The judges really examine the cupcakes everyone made," she said.

For round one, the four teams were told to make cupcakes using tea as an ingredient. Costa and Clanton made cupcakes with tea infused with jasmine, lemon zest and jasmine meringue.

For the second round, contestants made cupcakes for three songs from the movie, "Mary Poppins."

The two made Southern banana with cream cheese, pineapples, pecans, semi-sweetened cream cheese and robin’s nest with little eggs and coconut for "A Spoonful of Sugar."

For "Supercalifrigilisticexpialidocious" the cooks made vanilla with caramel Swiss meringue buttercream, caramel sauce, toasted pecan coconut and a decoration.

"Chim Chim Cher-ee" was devil’s food with Swiss meringue buttercream, a dark chocolate truffle center, liquor and good luck kiss.

The last challenge was to make 1,000 cupcakes.

On Monday, Costa was humble about the victory. She won $10,000, which she is splitting with her assistant. Costa is banking her money. She hopes to be in Martha Stewart magazine one day and write a cookbook.

Her cupcakes are sold at Our Town Café in Havelock.
