Havelock to host regional girls softball tourney

The eastern North Carolina Babe Ruth District 5 girls softball tournament is scheduled to begin Wednesday at the Havelock Recreation Complex.

Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, with games beginning afterward.

Competition will be in six age divisions from under 8 all the way through under 18.

The district includes teams from Havelock, Newport, New Bern, Down East, Pamlico County, Swansboro and Western Park. A total of 26 teams will be competing for regional titles.

Four fields will be used each night, with the championship contests scheduled for Sunday.

Admission is $5 per night. Programs and tournament T-shirts will also be available.

The Havelock Girls Softball League is serving as host for the tournament.
