Havelock Middle School scored on the last play of the game to beat Tucker Creek Middle School 20-14 in its opener to the 2012 football season.

Quarterback Jeffery Harris scrambled 45 yards for the game-winning touchdown for the Trojans.

Harris also threw for two other touchdowns, one of 40 yards to Quinzell Lockhart and the other of 25 yards to Lockhart. Kendall Frazier added a two-point conversion on the first touchdown for the Trojans.

The contest was considered a non-conference game and was not for the Cary Godette Trophy, which annually goes to the winner of the league contest between the two schools. The teams are scheduled to play for the trophy at 6 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Havelock High School.

Havelock Middle School was scheduled to play Grover C. Fields Middle School on Wednesday in New Bern, but results of that contest were not available at press time.
