Demetris Taylor, formerly of Havelock, has been inducted into the Mount Olive College Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 1992 baseball team.

Taylor, a 1989 graduate of Havelock High School and former center fielder for the Rams baseball team, is the son of Grace and James Taylor, of Havelock.

While at Havelock, Taylor earned the nickname Rocket Arm after catching a ball at center field with runners on second and third base and then throwing all the way to home plate, enabling the catcher to tag the runner out at the plate. After graduation, Taylor continued his education at Mount Oliver College playing center field for the Trojan baseball team.

He was a member of the 1992 baseball team that made school history by advancing to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national championship. Mount Olive lost 5-4 to Auburn-Montgomery in the finals but finished the season with a 38-15 record including two victories over Division I opponents.

After he graduated, Taylor enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served a tour in Operation Desert Storm.
