Scott, Johnson named athletes of the year at Havelock High

Havelock football player Derrell Scott and soccer player Natalie Johnson received top honors during the Havelock Rams Booster Club Senior Athletic Banquet held June 5 at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center.

Scott, a three-time state champion in football who shattered school rushing records and was also a member of two state-qualifying relay teams in track this past season, was named the school’s Male Athlete of the Year based on voting by the school’s athletic department.

Johnson, a two-time all-state selection in soccer who scored 60 career goals, was named the school’s Female Athlete of the Year.

In other honors handed out at the banquet, Johnson also received the Joe Hailey Sports Award, which goes to an exemplary athlete who is also a good citizen and good teammate.

Cory Paley received the Andy Maness Manager of the Year Award. Paley was a manager on the football team for four years and was also on the wrestling team.

Savannah Buday, a cheerleader, swimmer and baseball team manager her senior year, received the Hoyt Hayes Memorial Scholarship.

All senior athletes received plaques that noted their sports participation while at Havelock High, and senior scholar athletes also received special plaques.
