Havelock High senior running back Derrell Scott is expected to announce his college decision at a press conference on Jan. 27 at the high school.
Scott, who has been recruited by nearly every major college football team in the country, has said he has narrowed his choices to South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and N.C. State. Scott was expected to take a recruiting trip to Florida this weekend.
Scott ran for 2,147 yards and 25 touchdowns during the 2013 season, earning most valuable player honors as the Rams defeated Concord 21-13 in the state 3A championship game. Scott had a state championship game record-setting 96-yard touchdown run in the contest, part of his 209 yards and three touchdowns on the day.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder was recently named the NCPreps 3A Player of the Year and was also named to the Associated Press all-state team.
Scott helped the Rams to three consecutive state championships and rushed for 6,096 yards and 87 touchdowns in his four years at Havelock High. In those four years, the Rams compiled a 58-5 record. He owns records for single-season and career rushing yards at Havelock High.
