Another Friday in October. Another Havelock shutout victory.

Derrell Scott celebrated his 18th birthday by scoring a touchdown on Havelock’s first offensive play, and Matthew Boykin added four more touchdowns as the Rams dominated West Carteret 67-0 in a Coastal 3A Conference game Friday in Morehead City.

In four October games, top-ranked Havelock (10-0, 5-0) outscored its opponents 220-0.

“Our defense is playing lights out right now,” Havelock coach Jim Bob Bryant said. “It makes the offensive play calling really easy.”

And that first offensive play against the Patriots went to Scott, who took a handoff, cut left and then went right up the field for a 57-yard touchdown run just 14 seconds into the contest. Scott finished the game with 134 yards on just nine carries.

Bryant said the first play didn’t go to Scott because it was his birthday.
