Havelock coach Jim Bob Bryant will look out at the South Central Falcons on Friday night and see something familiar.
"They’ve changed their offense from a triple-option, flexbone attack to a spread offense," Bryant said. "It kind of looks like the offense I brought here four years ago. It looks eerily familiar."
The Falcons are 2-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play after last week’s 26-14 loss to West Craven in which South Central mustered just 110 yards in total offense. Bryant thinks what he called South Central’s athletic and speedy players are just going through some growing pains with the new offense.
"They’ve got good players, but you just can’t line up in the spread and decide this is what we’re going to do and be good at it right away," Bryant said. "Bu they’re getting better every week. Each game tape we’ve got on them, they’re getting a little bit better at it each week."
Bryant gave some players some time off the field in last week’s 34-7 victory over Washington, but said Tuesday that the Rams are 100 percent healthy and not overlooking the Falcons.
"These guys stay focused each week," Bryant said. "Their ultimate goal is to win the conference and win the state championship. They know the only way to win a conference championship is to win every game. So, we approach every Friday night like it’s the conference championship."
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Havelock High.
