The Havelock Rams like to run the court.

But when there’s a chance to drain an open 3-pointer, they won’t pass it up.

Zack Bruns made four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points to lead Havelock’s boys’ basketball team to an 87-55 victory over New Bern on Friday.

“We want (Zack) to be a leader and we want him to be a well-rounded player,” said Havelock coach Bill Fryczynski. “He is a tremendous scorer.”

Bruns scored nine-straight points to end the second quarter to extend the Havelock lead to 46-21 at halftime. Later in the third, Bruns connected on back-to-back treys to bump the Rams’ advantage to 59-30.

Havelock built its largest lead of 32 points in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

“We got hot in the first quarter and we never looked back,” Fryczynski said. “Everything is generated off of our defense. We got that momentum by putting the pressure on them.
