Rams fall to Jacksonville in nine innings

Havelock’s quest for a baseball playoff spot was dealt a blow with a 7-4 loss to Jacksonville in nine innings in a Coastal 3A Conference game Friday at Havelock High.

With the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the ninth, the Cardinals struck for three runs, With Blake Heatherly scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch and Talon Mulnix driving in the other two runs on a single.

Havelock threatened in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases, but Jacksonville (12-7, 8-4) pitcher David DiCicco worked out of the jam without giving up a run, ending the contest.

The Rams answered each run Jacksonville got in the early innings, as both teams scored single tallies in the first, third and fourth innings.

The Cardinals went on top in the sixth before Havelock tied the contest in the bottom of the seventh inning, forcing extra frames.

Chris Toler took the loss on the hill for the Rams, giving up two runs in 1 1/3 innings. He gave up three hits and walked three, while striking out two.

Josh Little started on the mound for the Rams, giving up three earned runs on six hits, while striking out seven in seven innings.
