Natalie Johnson drove toward the basket, pulled up and floated in the game-winning basket with 29 seconds remaining to lift Havelock to a 41-40 victory over New Bern Friday at Havelock High.

Jacquia McCullough converted one of two free throws to give New Bern a 40-39 lead with 42 seconds left.

The next Havelock possession, Johnson sneaked past a couple of New Bern defenders and made her bucket near the free throw line.

New Bern turned the ball on its next two possessions. The Bears had 25 turnovers in the contest, thanks in part to an aggressive Havelock defense.

Apriel Barrette paced Havelock with 10 points. Shakina Dyer and Jalisa Wilson both scored eight and Kierra Fleming had seven.
