The Havelock High wrestling team took second place in the annual Swiss Bear Wrestling Tournament on Saturday at New Bern High.

Dixon won the eight-team tournament with 158 points, with Havelock (135) in second and West Carteret (125) in third.

Ryan Davis was Havelock’s lone individual champion, as he defeated Dixon’s Kevin Cagle 10-4 in the title match of the 145-pound weight class.

The match of the tournament may have been in the championship of the 113-pound weight class between Havelock’s Tanner Johnson and Blaine Mainz of Jacksonville. The bout went to ultimate overtime, in which Mainz had choice because he scored the first points of the match. Mainz chose to go on top and held Johnson down for the 30 seconds needed to secure the 3-2 win.

Havelock had four other wrestlers place second in Lamonte Frazier (106) Javar Godette (138), John Ellis (160) and Ben Dixon (195).

Havelock is next scheduled to wrestle at the Beast of the East tournament on Saturday at Croatan High School.
