Rams have just one returning senior

The Havelock High volleyball team is set to open the season at New Bern on Tuesday, and the Rams appear to have some building in front of them.

Camaryn Singleton is the lone returning senior back from last year, and only Singleton, McKayla Roberts and Brice Goudy were members of last season’s 3-15 squad.

They are hoping for more this season.

"To be honest, I feel better about this team," Singleton said. "We are starting off better, compared to last year. We are more of a team and working together."

Setters Singleton, McKayla Brown, Amber Wright and Kailynn Simmons will set the tone for the offense. Hitters Roberts, Goudy, Natalie Johnson, Kennedy Campbell, Lauren Hunter, Krissy Markwood, Shanice Frazier and Airhianna Thompson will attempt to finish them off.

"They are good, but we have to get more rotation in," Singleton said. "We are more of a younger team, so we can only get better."

Amy McCutcheon is in her second year as head coach of the Rams, who lost six seniors off last year’s squad, including big hitters Tempestt Frazier and Hailey White.
